119 degrees in Sacramento? iPhone weather app shows sweltering forecast

Seeing 119 degrees listed on the Weather app in Sacramento is enough to have people sweating.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Northern Californians awoke to a surprising forecast Thursday when they checked their iPhone's weather app.

While temperatures have risen as we approach the 4th of July holiday weekend, seeing 119 degrees listed as the high in Sacramento is enough to have people sweating.

Temperatures are set to rise through next week in the Sacramento area with the latest weather models showing temperatures in the low 100s, with a peak happening July 3 with a high at 109 degrees.

But could it really reach 119 degrees next Saturday?

Well, not exactly. This number is based on a single model, not a synthesis so it's an unrealistic figure at this point. That's not to say it won't be hot next Saturday.

Temperatures are still expected to be above average with highs around 110 degrees, perhaps slightly cooler.

The Sacramento area hasn't hit 110 degrees every year. Since 1990, there have been 10 years where downtown Sacramento has hit this milestone temperature.
