CHP: 8 dead after Madera County head-on crash

Law enforcement officials say a van carrying farmworkers collided with a pickup truck. Seven people in the van died.

8 people died in a crash involving a truck and a van in Madera County Friday morning.

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. — Eight people are dead after a Friday morning crash in Madera County.

The California Highway Patrol says a van and pickup truck collided around 6 a.m. on Avenue 7, just west of Road 22.  The road is between Firebaugh and Fresno.

Seven people in the van died and one person in the truck died, ABC-affiliate KFSN in Fresno reports.

Law enforcement officials say the van was full of farmworkers on their way to Lion Farms. The only other person inside the van was hospitalized with major injuries.

KFSN reports most of the people in the van weren’t wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
