Bear season: Photo shows why you should leave your windows rolled up and car locked

A photo of the destruction left by a bear shows why you want to avoid leaving your windows down and car locked during bear season.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Bears are smart, and if they smell something they like...they won't hesitate to enter your vehicle. A picture shared by the Placer County Sheriff's Office Wednesday shows why drivers should leave car windows up and doors locked during bear season.

The photo shows the destruction left behind when you leave the windows down or the car unlocked.

The bear became trapped in a car in Tahoe and destroyed the inside of the vehicle until a deputy was able to come let the bear out, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The torn upholstery and ripped apart seats aren't all that was left behind by the wild animal. The bear also peed, spit and pooped all over the inside of the vehicle.

The car, which was left unlocked, is a total loss.

The Sheriff's Office is urging everyone to lock their doors and leave their windows rolled up at all times. "Please be BEAR AWARE," the department wrote on Facebook.
