‘No witnesses’: CHP struggles to find vehicle responsible for deadly hit-and-run in Yuba County

The vehicle took off after allegedly striking and killing a 22-year-old man. Alcohol is considered a factor, authorities said.

YUBA COUNTY, Calif. — A man was struck and killed in a hit-and-run Sunday night in Yuba County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Around 8:30 p.m., a 22-year-old pedestrian was found lying unresponsive in the roadway of Feather River Boulevard south of Algodon Road, according to CHP. He was found about three miles west of Plumas Lake.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene, and factors indicated the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle, law enforcement said. Despite efforts to save the man's life, he was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified by the county sheriff's office as Joshua Steven Barrick, 22.

“There were no witnesses to the crash, and the vehicle fled the scene,” CHP’s Yuba-Sutter office wrote in a news release.

CHP said alcohol is considered a factor in the crash.

Feather River Boulevard was closed for about an hour for the crash investigation, authorities said.

CHP said it encourages anyone with information about this incident, including the identity or whereabouts of the vehicle, to contact the office at 530-645-6200.
