TRACY, Calif. — Multiple fire crews were called out to battle a massive blaze in a neighborhood in Tracy, Sunday evening.
The five-alarm fire burned in the 2700 block of Cabrillo Drive, a neighborhood located just south of Interstate 205 and north of Grant Line Road. It was originally reported as a grass and fence fire along Cabrillo Drive.
“It went over two pretty significant barriers, one being a large drainage and another being a set of railroad tracks,” said David Bramell, division chief with the South San Joaquin Fire Authority.

Eleven structures were damaged by the fire, including two homes that received extensive damage, according to the Tracy Fire Department. Strong winds fueled the flames and pushed it 500 feet through a housing subdivision and into a neighboring mobile home park, officials said.
“Winds were definitely a contributing factor that pushed the fire East and spread through a what in essence is a subdivision,” Bramell said. “We had one home that was completely destroyed, another that incurred significant damage.”
One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Carrie Billena's home was destroyed. Her dog, sadly, did not make it out, either.
“Everything that we had. I’m just thankful that we got the kids out and we got out. Our dog didn’t get out in time but everything else is replaceable,” Billena told ABC10.
The American Red Cross was on scene, Sunday evening, assisting the displaced residents. Billena says she has family in Tracy and will be staying with them.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
