SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Fairfield resident was arrested for felony animal cruelty and willful abandonment of an animal after a dog was found in a recycling tote on the side of the road in unincorporated Rio Vista.

According to Solano Sheriff’s Animal Control Services, the resident dumped the dog in the bin and left it for dead on Sept. 18, 2023. A Good Samaritan called in after finding the dog.

"The dog was located and unfortunately was near death," law enforcement said in a Facebook post. "The dog was rushed to Solano County Animal Shelter. While receiving veterinary care at the shelter, an owner was located. Ultimately, the decision was made to humanely euthanize the animal to end the dog’s suffering."
