In-N-Out Burger closing Oakland location due to crime

The company said customers and employees regularly experience car break-ins, property damage, theft and armed robberies despite repeated steps to make it safer.

OAKLAND, Calif. — In-N-Out Burger has announced it's closing its location in Oakland, CA near the Oakland International Airport.

In-N-Out Burger Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick said in a statement Sunday it's closing the location due to high crime activity. The address of the In-N-Out is 8300 Oakport Street.

The company said customers and employees regularly experience car break-ins, property damage, theft and armed robberies despite repeated steps to make it safer.

"We are grateful for the local community, which has supported us for over 18 years, and we recognize that this closure negatively impacts our Associates and their families. Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and well-being of our Customers and Associates — we cannot ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment," In-N-Out wrote in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

The last day of business is Sunday, March 24, according to In-N-Out.

The company said employees will have the opportunity to transfer to a nearby In-N-Out or receive a severance package.

The closest locations to the Oakland restaurant are 555 Willie Stargell Avenue in Alameda and 15575 Hesperian Boulevard in San Leandro.

Warnick said In-N-Out has a history of supporting the Oakland community even before the Oakland location opened and will continue to give to local charitable organizations even when the location is closed. The Oakland location has been open for more than 18 years.
