LIVINGSTON, California — A Modesto man was booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon following a road rage shooting in Livingston earlier this month.

California Highway Patrol says Juan Carlos Navarro was the driver of a Toyota Prius who shot at a Hyundai Sonata on northbound Highway 99 near Hammatt Avenue.

It's not clear what led up to the shooting, however CHP said Navarro pulled out a handgun and fired one shot at the passenger side of the Hyundai. The gunshot struck the Hyundai's right front passenger door but missed the two people inside.

Navarro left the scene but was later taken into custody.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CHP Investigator O. Martinez at (209) 356-6631 or the CHP Merced Area Office at (209) 356-6600.
