CALIFORNIA, USA — Parts of 10 counties in Northern California could lose power due to fire weather conditions this week.
PG&E said Public Safety Power Shutoffs were possible July 2 in parts of Colusa, Glenn, Lake, Napa, Shasta, Solano, Tehama, Sonoma, Butte and Yolo counties. It would potentially impact about 12,000 customers.
For the areas potentially impacted by the outages, click HERE for a map. Yolo County said on X that their county could be impacted at 4 a.m. with a potential restoration time of 4 p.m. on July 3.
“We are closely monitoring areas where abnormally high heat is forecasted and demand on the grid will be elevated, such as the Santa Clara Valley and other interior Bay valleys. This is in addition to the entire Central Valley where temperatures are projected to be the hottest,” said Scott Strenfel, Senior Director of Meteorology and Fire Science at PG&E.
The potential blackouts are also coinciding with a Red Flag Warning in the area from 11 p.m. Monday to 8 p.m. Wednesday and extreme heat risk.
Officials said they're also monitoring the potential for breezy to locally gusty winds from Monday night through Wednesday morning. While a strong wind event isn't currently expected, gusts could reach up to 40 mph in the Northern and Western Sacramento Valley and adjacent foothills.
No Public Safety Power Shutoff has been called at this time. Anyone interested in notifications can get them by address HERE. If PG&E calls for power shutoffs, it would be the first Public Safety Power Shutoff of 2024.
