SPI Tree Surveyor recovering after falling about 20 to 30 feet into a ravine north of Grass Valley

The fall happened at 1:30 p.m., and emergency services were immediately dispatched for the rescue operation.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — An SPI Tree Surveyor fell about 20 to 30 feet into a ravine while working in western Sierra County near Alleghany Tuesday.

Several agencies, including the Sierra County Sheriff's Office, Nevada County Search and Rescue, Alleghany, Pike, Camptonville, and Downieville Fire Departments, the US Forest Service, California Highway Patrol helicopter, and Care Flight helicopter quickly responded to the emergency.

The fall happened at 1:30 p.m., and emergency services were immediately dispatched for the rescue operation. Personnel from different agencies worked together to rescue and provide medical treatment to the surveyor.

Rescuers hiked to the victim, administered medical treatment, and moved the victim to a position where the Highway Patrol helicopter could hoist him out of the ravine. The victim was flown to a waiting medical transport helicopter and transferred to Care Flight. From there, he was flown directly to the hospital.
