CALIFORNIA, USA — Starting in August, people will need to make reservations on weekends and holidays at this popular Lake Tahoe spot.
The Nevada Division of State Parks said Tuesday that day-use reservations will soon be required at Sand Harbor.
Reservations will be required on weekends and holidays from August 17 through Oct. 13. Making a reservation will guarantee the visitor and everyone in the vehicle a parking spot, according to Tyler Kerver, a spokesperson with the Nevada Division of State Parks.
If someone doesn't use their reservation by 10:30 a.m., they give up the spot and it will be given to a first come, first served visitor. If the reservations are full on a specific day, the gates will close at 10:30 a.m. and people will not get in until enough space opens up and the park allows first come, first served access.
There will be a limited number of reservations per day, according to Kerver. However, those numbers haven't been released. More information will be announced June 21.
This trial period will help people adjust with a full implementation set to start in April 2025.
People wanting to enter the park after 10:30 a.m. will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis depending on park capacity. Reservations for same-day bookings are waived. To book ahead, it'll be a $5 nonrefundable fee.
The reservations are meant to reduce traffic congestion on Highway 28 and prevent overcrowding at the state park.
