Senator Laphonza Butler isolating after testing positive for COVID

Butler was recently appointed by Governor Newsom to fill Feinstein's vacant seat. She'll be working remotely for now after the positive test.

CALIFORNIA, USA — The newly appointed senator from California will be working remotely for a while after testing positive for COVID-19.

"After a busy 1st week on the job, I have tested positive for COVID-19 & am experiencing mild symptoms. Per CDC guidelines I will be isolating while the Senate is in session and working remotely," said Senator Laphonza Butler on the social media site X.

Butler was sworn into office on Oct. 3 after Governor Gavin Newsom appointed her to the role. She replaces late Senator Dianne Feinstein who died after a series of illnesses
