CALIFORNIA, USA — The newly appointed senator from California will be working remotely for a while after testing positive for COVID-19.
"After a busy 1st week on the job, I have tested positive for COVID-19 & am experiencing mild symptoms. Per CDC guidelines I will be isolating while the Senate is in session and working remotely," said Senator Laphonza Butler on the social media site X.
Butler was sworn into office on Oct. 3 after Governor Gavin Newsom appointed her to the role. She replaces late Senator Dianne Feinstein who died after a series of illnesses.
