REDDING, Calif. — New interrogation video was released by the Shasta County Sheriff's Office showing the moments investigators confronted Sherri Papini about faking her own kidnapping.
Several new images and video were recently released in the case.
The 40-year-old mother of two from Redding was missing for almost a month before she was found along Interstate 5, covered in self-inflicted wounds.
Papini claimed two Hispanic women kidnapped, beat and even branded her. Her husband described her condition just days after she returned.
"Her poor face, I got nauseated just looking at her. The bruises were just intense," said Keith Papini.
However, 3 years later, investigators traced DNA on Papini to James Reyes, her ex-boyfriend. Police say Papini planned it all, tricking Reyes into taking her to his home where she inflicted the injuries on herself.
When confronted with the evidence, Papini finally seemed to break. In the video, she tells detectives that she made mistakes talking to other men and that "talking to other guys has got me here."
For Keith Papini, that confrontation changed everything.
The interrogation video was released showing the moment deputies confronted Papini with her husband Keith by her side. The video was released less than 24 hours after Papini pleaded guilty to faking her own kidnapping and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
