State inmate escapes from fire crew in Southern California

HIGHLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are searching for a state prisoner who walked away while assigned to a fire crew in San Bernardino County.

HIGHLAND, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are searching for a state prisoner who walked away while assigned to a fire crew in San Bernardino County.
    
Sheriff's officials say Kent Lesporavasky was last seen around midday Wednesday in Highland while wearing an orange Department of Corrections jumpsuit.
    
Searchers using helicopters and K-9s came up empty.
    
The 43-year-old is described as weighing about 220 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
    
The Sun newspaper says he was serving a sentence for transportation of marijuana and has prior history for theft, drugs and assault on police.
