Ceres man killed in Oakdale two-vehicle crash

CHP says the man was speeding and tried to avoid rear-ending a car in front of him, but he hit an oncoming vehicle instead.

OAKDALE, Calif. — A 23-year-old Ceres man was killed Thursday night in a two-vehicle crash in Oakdale.

According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened around 5:30 p.m. Thursday on Orange Blossom Road, west of Wamble Road.

CHP says the 23-year-old was driving a Ford Mustang east on Orange Blossom Road at a ‘high rate of speed.’

He swerved over the solid double yellow lines in order to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of him that was about to make a right turn and hit an oncoming Jeep head-on.

The driver of the Mustang died at the scene.

The driver of the Jeep had major injuries and was taken to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. Her passenger, a 4-year-old boy, had minor injuries.

It’s unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash. CHP says the driver of the Jeep was sober at the time of the accident.
