Man dies after being shot by Ceres police officer

An officer was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

CERES, Calif. — A man is dead after being shot by a Ceres police officer Friday afternoon.

According to a news release from the Ceres Police Department, it began around 11:40 a.m. when officers were called to Dirk Court for a report of a man wielding a knife at family members.

Police say they found the suspect had a warrant out for his arrest for domestic violence and assault with a deadly weapon in Modesto.

Upon arrival, the unidentified suspect ran through the yards of nearby homes.

Police found the suspect hiding in a vehicle on a property on 6th Street about 30 minutes later.

Officers tried to detain him and at some point, he was shot by at least one officer. He died at the scene.

A police officer was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. No one else was injured.
