LATHROP, Calif. — The California Highway Patrol is investigating after an Amazon semi-truck crashed into a building Thursday afternoon and the driver was found with a gunshot wound.
According to CHP, the call came in around 12:50 p.m. for a big rig that went off the road and into a building on northbound I-5, south of Louise Avenue. Officers then received a call for shots fired.
Upon arrival officers found the driver hit two parked cars before crashing into a building, and that the driver had been shot.
The driver was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. There is no suspect information available yet.
Caltrans says the #1 and #2 lanes are now open on northbound I-5. The #3 lane and the WB/SR-120 to NB I-5 connector ramp is still closed.
Stockton area CHP officials are asking anyone with any information to contact CHP's investigative unit at (916)731-6580 or CHP-Stockton at (209)938-4800.
"If you were driving NB on I-5 between SR-120 and Louise Ave, between 12:30-1:00pm on 6/15 and have a dash cam, we need your help," the department said in a tweet. "No tip is too small."
