A CHP officer has died after being hit by a car Saturday while investigating an earlier traffic accident.

Officer Nathan Daniel Taylor was in the area of Castle Peak Road along westbound I-80 on Saturday afternoon when he was hit. Officials said Taylor was directing traffic when a car lost control and ran into him. He was rushed to a Reno-area hospital, where he died Sunday night.

Taylor had been with the CHP for almost six years. Members of the Gold Run area CHP office joined Taylor's family and friends Sunday night to say goodbye.

In early March, ABC10 spoke with Officer Taylor while he was helping a Roseville woman who had lost control of her car in a snow bank.

Members of the CHP will hold a bell ringing ceremony Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the CHP Academy in West Sacramento in memory of Taylor. The public will not be allowed to participate in the ceremony.
