CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — An 11-year-old boy is in the hospital with major injuries after being hit by a car in Citrus Heights Friday night, according to police.
The Citrus Heights Police Department says the boy was in a crosswalk but was "crossing illegally" when he was hit by a truck on Auburn Boulevard and Greenback Lane. Police say the driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating in the investigation.
The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition but police say his vitals were "stable."
The accident happened around 9 p.m. and police are still in the area impacting traffic. Police say they do not suspect DUI as a factor in the accident.
