Person found dead after apartment fire in Citrus Heights

Officials said it's not clear if the person did as a result of the fire or died prior to the fire starting.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — A person was found dead after an apartment fire in Citrus Heights Monday morning.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said crews responded around 9 a.m. along the 6200 block of Mariposa Avenue for the blaze. 

Upon arriving, fire officials said they found a fire extinguished in a bedroom with a dead person on a bed.

It's not clear if the person died as a result of the fire or before the fire started.

Damage to the room was minimal, including a burned blanket and some other small items. Officials said the cause of the fire was "undetermined."

The Citrus Heights Police Department is investigating what led up to the fire.
