Man arrested on suspicion of starting vacant house fire in Citrus Heights

A spokesperson for the fire district said a person was burning the sheath off copper wiring before crews arrived.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — A man was arrested Monday on suspicion of starting a house fire in Citrus Heights.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the fire was at a vacant house along Cherry Glen Avenue at Auburn Boulevard. A spokesperson for the fire district said a person was burning the sheath off copper wiring before crews arrived.

"Most of the damage was to the personal property of the squatters and wiring, however, the home is in complete disrepair and is a hotbed for transient activity," Parker Wilbourn, a spokesperson for the fire district told ABC10.

The man was identified as Michael Eschenfelder. No one was injured in the fire.
