SACRAMENTO – One of America's most popular coffee and donut chains is returning to Northern California.
Dunkin' Donuts announced Wednesday it had signed a deal with franchise group, Sizzling Donuts, LLC, to develop 46 new restaurants throughout the greater Sacramento metro area, over the next several years. The agreement also includes locations in the surrounding cities of Davis, Stockton, Modesto, Tracy, Manteca, and Placerville.
Sizzling Donuts is a subsidiary of Sizzling Platter, LLC, which is based in Utah. The corporate headquarters for Dunkin' Donuts are in Massachusetts.
"We feel our restaurants will play an important role in the daily lives of people who live, work and visit the southwest and western states," said Sizzling Platter CEO and president Ted Morton said in a press release. "We are excited to bring Dunkin' Donuts' high-quality coffee, sandwiches and baked goods to California, and look forward to breaking ground on the first of many California locations."
Over time, there are plans for the franchise group to open as many as 1,000 restaurants in our state.
"We are excited that Ted and his partners are joining us as we expand throughout the Golden State into Sacramento," said Grant Benson, CFE, vice president of global franchising and business development, Dunkin' Brands.
Dunkin' Donuts left Northern California in the late 1990s due to weak sales and a lack of existing locations. The company tried to re-enter the Sacramento market back in 2002, announcing its intention to open more than 50 stores. However, the plan never came to full fruition. One store opened off Power Inn Road, but closed after a few years in operation.
Company officials have not released an official timetable for the first restaurant opening, but donut lovers can expect it to happen sometime in 2015.
