WWII hand grenade found in Citrus Heights home; police evacuate neighbors

Several Citrus Heights residents were evacuated from their homes Wednesday evening as police work to render a hand grenade safe.

A woman was cleaning out her deceased father's garage around 4:30 p.m. near Kingswood Drive and Sunrise Boulevard when she found a WWII-style hand grenade, Citrus Heights Police Lt. Jason Russo said.

As precaution, nearby residents were evacuated. Police and other agencies are on the scene to make sure the area is safe.

Police also closed Macy Plaza and Kingswood Drive where the two streets intersect with Sunrise Boulevard. Motorists are encouraged to take different routes until the incident is resolved.
