COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo — Club Q is on track to reopen by fall after five people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting there in November.
The LGBTQ+ nightclub's management posted a reopening plan on Facebook Monday. They said they've partnered with HB&A, a women-owned architecture and planning firm based in Colorado Springs, to create a tribute to the victims and rebuild the club with enhanced security measures.
They said the initial design concepts are expected to be delivered within the next four to six weeks. The design will include a permanent tribute to Daniel Aston, Raymond Green Vance, Kelly Loving, Ashley Paugh and Derrick Rump, who were killed in the shooting.
"Their memories will be carried forward and honored forever, while we work to make Club Q a forever home for our LGBTQIA+ community," management said in the post.
Seventeen other people suffered gunshot wounds in the Nov. 19 shooting. Two people -- Richard Fierro and Thomas James -- were hailed as heroes for tackling and disarming the shooter.
The club's new design will include enhanced security measures, including "new screening technology and a hardened space," management said.
Management said the interior of the current space will be cleared out by April, and they are on track to fully reopen by fall.
Club Q said they've hired two victims of the mass shooting as staff, and plan to add at least one new staff member in the next month. Those employees will help management with rebuilding efforts, community relations and more, the management said.
