Construction happening along Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights | What to know

This is the second phase of the larger project along Auburn Boulevard, so the improvements will look much like what you see south of Antelope Road.

CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. — Construction on Phase Two of the Auburn Boulevard Complete Streets Project started last week.

The work along Auburn Boulevard will happen between Antelope Road/Rusch Community Park to I-80, which is over a mile.

City engineer Leslie Blomquist says they’re updating the infrastructure for modes of transportation that weren’t incorporated into the city's original plans to meet the needs of residents.

"Really get[ting] people out of their cars, visiting the businesses, visiting Citrus Heights and utilizing this corridor in any way they choose," said Blomquist.

Blomquist says the road will be completely reconstructed and there will be new updates for pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users and drivers.

You'll see changes like:

  • Traffic safety improvements
  • Updates to accessibility
  • Underground utility lines
  • Wider sidewalks

She says construction will start at the north end of Auburn Boulevard and move south toward Antelope Road.

You can expect 24-hour lane closings in increments along the project area that will be in place during times of active construction. Blomquist hopes people will keep visiting businesses along the boulevard during the construction.

This is the second phase of the larger project along Auburn Boulevard, so the improvements will look much like what you see south of Antelope Road. This phase will be under construction until fall 2026.
