California heat wave: Cooling centers open in NorCal

Some cities are opening their cooling centers ahead of a heat wave hitting the area.

SACRAMENTO, Calif — Cities in Northern California are activating cooling centers due to a searing heat wave hitting the Sacramento area.

Temperatures will be reaching triple digits starting Wednesday and continuing through Friday. Cities like Sacramento, Stockton and Elk Grove have already started preparing for the Heat Advisory by opening cooling centers to help people beat the heat.

Look below for some of the locations in Northern California.

Sacramento

  • 1400 North A St.: 1-10 p.m. Wednesday through Friday
  • 3615 Auburn Blvd.: 11 a.m. Wednesday through 8 a.m. Saturday
  • 2450 Meadowview Rd.: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday

Elk Grove

  • Elk Grove Police Department on Laguna Palms Way: 12-8 p.m. Wednesday through Friday

Rancho Cordova

  • Rancho Cordova City Hall at 2729 Prospect Park Drive: 2-7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday

Stockton

  • Arnold Rue Community Center at 5758 Lorraine Ave.
  • Stribley Community Center at 1760 E. Sonora St.
  • Van Buskirk Community Center at 734 Houston Ave.
  • Seifert Community Center – 128 W. Benjamin Holt Dr., Stockton 95207. Seifert Community Center is not open to the community until 2 p.m. on weekdays as it is a shared facility with Stockton Unified School District.

All sites in Stockton are open Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
