1 killed after head-on crash in Sutter County

Law enforcement first got a report of a Chrysler Pacifica traveling south in northbound lanes on Highway 99. Then, officers heard it crashed into another vehicle.

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. — A Marysville woman is dead after allegedly driving the wrong way and crashing into another vehicle early Sunday morning in Sutter County, the California Highway Patrol said.

Just after 2:30 a.m., the 25-year-old woman reportedly drove a Chrysler Pacifica south in the northbound lanes on Highway 99, south of Highway 70, according to CHP.

About a minute later, authorities said she reportedly crashed into a GMC Denali along Highway 99, south of Howsley Road.

Emergency and medical personnel arrived on scene. The Chrysler driver was pronounced dead at the scene; the 46-year-old male driver of the GMC was taken to the hospital with major injuries, CHP said.

It is unclear if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, according to law enforcement. The Sutter County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the woman killed in the crash after her family is notified.
