Man dies after crashing into Sutter County irrigation canal

First responders found a Ford F-250 upside down and submerged in about five feet of water.

SUTTER COUNTY, Calif. — A man died after crashing into an irrigation canal Wednesday morning in Sutter County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, it happened just after 8 a.m. on Pelger Road in south Sutter County.

Upon arrival, first responders found a Ford F-250 upside down and submerged in about 5 feet of water.

They rescued the driver, a 57-year-old man who was unresponsive. He ultimately died from his injuries.

CHP said there were no witnesses, and a passerby called authorities. 

Neither drugs nor alcohol contributed to the crash, and the driver has not yet been identified, according to law enforcement.
