DAVIS, Calif. — The Davis Police Department announced an arrest Thursday in the recent stabbings that left two men dead and a woman injured.

Carlos Dominguez, 21, was arrested on suspicion of two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, and a weapons violation for having a "large hunting knife" on his person when he was detained Wednesday.

Officials say the knife they found on him fits the description of the weapon used in the third attack.

Davis police chief Darren Pytel says Dominguez was a UC Davis student "until last week," and UC Davis officials say he was expelled April 25 for "academic reasons."

Evidence was collected from the first two homicide scenes, leading officials to believe the three cases are connected.

Dominguez was taken to Yolo County Jail and there is no clear motive at this time.

Officials also said the third victim, a homeless woman named Kimberlee Guillory, is "severely wounded" and recovering at the hospital.

A home related to the crimes is being searched and investigated by officials.

TIMELINE

The first victim was found dead on April 27 in Davis’ Central Park in what police call a "brazen, brutal attack." He was identified as 50-year-old David Breaux, also known to people in the area as ‘Compassion Guy.’

The second victim, UC Davis student 20-year-old Karim Najm, was "violently attacked" and stabbed to death in Sycamore Park on April 29.

The third victim, a homeless woman named Kimberlee Guillory, was stabbed at an encampment on 2nd and L Streets. She survived the stabbing and is severely wounded but recovering in the hospital.

Around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, police confirmed to ABC10 a person of interest was detained, however, they weren't formally charged yet.

The person was detained near Colby Drive and Pine Lane, a block away from Sycamore Park where a UC Davis student was fatally stabbed.
