DAVIS, Calif. — Sunday marked the first day back at work for Davis Police Officers, just three days after a gunman shot and killed Officer Natalie Corona.

The department took to Facebook to share a photo from Officer Corona's Saturday vigil, and a reminder to those reading to "be kind to one another."

"This morning, as our officers head back out on the street for the first time since we lost Officer Corona, try to remember to be kind to one another," the department wrote. "Our city is hurting, Davis PD included. We will forever be changed by this tragic event, but our officers have a job to do, and this morning, they do it willingly and with pride."

This morning, as our officers head back out on the street for the first time since we lost Officer Corona, try to remember to be kind to one another. Our city is hurting, Davis PD included. We will...

More than 100 people commented on the post, offering condolences and even lodging for any officers who will be in Northern California for Corona's funeral services on Friday, Jan. 18.

"Thank you, City of Davis Police Department. Each of you are deeply appreciated by our community, and our hearts are broken with yours," one woman wrote. "We are together in grieving the senseless, tragic loss of Officer Corona. Thank you for your extraordinary dedication."

"The Davis Police Department would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the outpouring of support shown to us as a result of this unthinkable, heartbreaking tragedy," the Facebook post reads. The department released the following information for those who wish to help during this time.

CONDOLENCES

The department said the following about the amount of calls they have been receiving since the death of Officer Corona:

"While we genuinely appreciate the calls to our Dispatch Center expressing condolences, the sheer volume of calls have begun to interfere with our daily operations."

The department asks that any messages of support be emailed to policeweb@cityofdavis.org. And if members of the community have letters, cards, art or poems for the department, they are welcome to stop by and drop them off. Copies will be shared with the Corona Family.

"Again, the Davis PD family thanks you for the love you have shown to us," the Facebook post reads. "We have no doubt that such kindness and empathy would have made Natalie proud."
