An 18-year-old Dixon High School senior has been arrested on a felony charge of altering computer data in a grade-changing scandal involving 32 students.
Dixon Unified School District superintendent Brian Dolan said the student, who he declined to identify, had been changing grades since January and cooperated with administrators when he was confronted with the evidence on Wednesday.
"We won't be answering questions about how he did it, but he did it. And he acknowledged that," Dolan said at a Friday afternoon news conference Friday in the school's theater.
Juan Leopoldo Ambriz was arrested on campus Wednesday afternoon by Dixon police and was later released from the Solano County Jail on $15,000 bail.
Dolan said more than 200 fraudulent grade changes had been identified and that it appears at least some of the students whose grades were changed were unaware of the scheme.
"I believe in the end we will have different consequences for the 32 students involved in this and for some of those students it may be nothing," he said.
Dolan said students were still being interviewed and administrators were hoping to complete their investigation before the last day of school on June 4.
Senior Marissa Gabriel said Ambriz had plans to attend a major university in the fall.
"I don't know why somebody would do this," she said. "I don't think he knew the consequences that would come to him if he did this."
