Man arrested, accused of kidnapping woman on UC Davis campus

A woman was walking in the UC Davis Arboretum around 6 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind.

DAVIS, Calif. — A man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and assaulting a woman in the UC Davis Arboretum, police said Wednesday.

The UC Davis Police Department said on August 12, a woman was walking in the UC Davis Arboretum around 6 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind. She was able to get away and find help. Officers responded to the area but didn't find anyone. They later identified the man through video recordings.

The man, identified as James Garvin, turned himself in to the UC Davis Police Department on August 20. He was booked at the Yolo County Jail on multiple charges including kidnapping, false imprisonment and assault with great bodily injury. It's unclear what injuries the woman had and her identity hasn't been released.

The UC Davis Police Department said Garvin lives in Davis but isn't a UC Davis student or employee.
