Section of I-5 may be named for Officer Natalie Corona

Sen. Bill Dodd introduced a resolution to name a portion of I-5 "Officer Natalie Corona Memorial Highway." It would stretch from Greenbay Road to Salt Creek Drive in Colusa County.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A section of Interstate 5 in Colusa County may soon be named after a 22-year-old Davis Police officer who was killed after responding to a car accident.

Officer Natalie Corona was shot to death on January 10 while investigating a three-car crash in Davis.

“The death of Officer Natalie Corona was a heartbreaking reminder of the risks of being a police officer and serving our community,” said Sen. Bill Dodd (D-Napa), in an emailed statement to ABC10.

He introduced a resolution to name a portion of I-5 "Officer Natalie Corona Memorial Highway." It would stretch from Greenbay Road to Salt Creek Drive in Colusa County.

“By naming this stretch of highway in her honor, my hope is her dedication and bravery will not be forgotten,” Dodd said.

The resolution passed out of the Assembly Transportation Committee with a unanimous vote on April 22. The measure also requests the California Department of Transportation to determine the cost of signage displaying the designation and the Davis Police Department badge.

The department would need to use donations from non-state sources to erect the signs.
