UC Davis increases security after stabbings

The Academic Senate at UC Davis is considering changing instruction during the evening.

DAVIS, Calif. — UC Davis is increasing security after three stabbings in the city took the lives of two people, including a UC Davis student.

A 20-year-old student, Karim Abou Najm, was killed Saturday night at Sycamore Park.

UC Davis put out a statement online Tuesday saying there are no changes to instruction and administrative operations during the day. However, the Academic Senate is considering changing instruction during the evening. An announcement is expected to come around 2 p.m. Tuesday.

UC Davis campus police added personnel and vans to maximize Safe Ride and escort availability this week.

Rides from campus into the city will now be available from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. seven days a week, starting May 1, which was moved up by two hours.

UC Davis Police also had extra private security on campus Monday night by the Members in Black Private Security

The Davis Police Department is recommending people do not walk alone at night and stay vigilant and aware of their surroundings.
