Davis woman concerned after UPS delivery driver left behind opposing political flags

"I feel unsafe and I've never felt unsafe in Davis. I've lived here 30 years and Davis has always been a wonderful community to me."

DAVIS, Calif. — With only two weeks left until Election Day, an 83-year-old woman in Davis is concerned after surveillance video caught a UPS delivery driver leaving behind opposing political flags on her lawn.

Shelly Bailes said she has always felt safe living in Davis for the last three decades. That is until Friday when she saw surveillance video showing the driver on her lawn, which was filled with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz signs.

"He noticed my Harris sign, and I guess it upset him. And he proceeded to put Trump, little Trump flags all along the edge of my property and... he actually walked on my property and put a sign on my property," Bailes said.

The 83-year-old said the driver was delivering packages to her neighbors when he stopped by to leave behind at least 10 flags in support of former president Donald Trump.

Bailes said she sees the incident as a form of bullying.

"I feel unsafe and I've never felt unsafe in Davis. I've lived here 30 years, and Davis has always been a wonderful community to me. I've done a lot of political events and stuff, and I've never felt unsafe and now I do," Bailes said.

Bailes reported the incident to both UPS and Davis police.

While police took an incident report, they told ABC10 they're not pursuing this as a crime.

UPS released this statement on Tuesday:

"We respect the right of all Americans to support their chosen candidate, however, we ask our employees to express their political views on their own time. We are investigating and will take appropriate action."

"I think it's ridiculous. I think that people have a right to vote. People have a right to say who they are supporting. And I just don't know what is happening to America. It's not a nice thing," Bailes said.

Although this left Bailes feeling anxious, she said she doesn't want the driver to be punished.

"The holidays are coming up. He may have a wife and kids, and I don't want him to be fired. What I want is his route changed. I never want to see him again. I don't want him on my route. And if he does it a second time, then he should be fired," Bailes said.

The woman said someone also stole one of her signs a couple of weeks ago, but her surveillance camera didn't capture it.
