Del Oro sophomore dies in UTV crash over the weekend

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — Keira Bradley died in a UTV crash over the weekend, the Placer Union High School District said Monday.

Bradley was a sophomore at Del Oro High School. She died in a crash Saturday, Dec. 16, according to the school district.

"Such tragedies, especially when they involve young people, are very difficult to process.  Chaplains and Mental Health support resources have been provided to our students and staff and will continue as long as needed," the Placer Union High School District wrote in a statement. "Please join us in keeping Keira’s family, friends and the Del Oro community in your thoughts during these difficult times."

According to a California Highway Patrol report, a 15-year-old girl was driving a side-by-side four-seater UTV with two other passengers around 9:55 p.m. near Newcastle. 

CHP said the teenager was backing the vehicle onto the driveway when she accidentally backed the UTV onto a steep embankment. The driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled onto its left side. The girl died and the crash is under investigation.
