DENAIR, Calif. — A two-year-old child died after being found in a canal in Stanislaus County Monday night.
A spokesperson for the Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office said the child was found in a canal along the 4300 block of Swanson Road in Denair.
Officials said the child was initially reported missing around 6:20 p.m., and according to the Denair Fire Department, by 6:25 p.m., authorities were notified the child was found unresponsive in a nearby canal.
Investigators are trying to determine how this incident happened.
The child was in critical condition Monday night after being rushed to a hospital by a helicopter but later died. The child's death is under investigation.
