12 displaced, dog dead after two homes damaged in North Highlands fire

Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn said the fire was pushing toward another nearby home, also putting it under threat from the flames.

NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. — A dog is dead and 12 people were displaced after a fire damaged two homes in North Highlands Tuesday evening.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to the blaze around 5:40 p.m. along the 7000 block of Roca Way.

Battalion Chief Parker Wilbourn said the fire was pushing toward another nearby home, also putting it under threat from the flames.

"We had major damage, including a full structural roof collapse of the garage on the main fire building and damage that was being sustained to the roofline of an adjacent home," Wilbourn said.

Fire crews surrounded both homes and searched them, confirming that everyone was out.

The blaze was extinguished, but 12 people, in total, were displaced. That includes eight people from the initial home and four people from the home the fire spread to.

A dog was also found dead in the first home.
