Driver dies after falling off 1,000 foot cliff in Placer County

Officials said the accident happened along Mosquito Ridge Road.

PLACER COUNTY, Calif. — One person is dead after their car fell 1,000 feet off a cliff in Placer County Sunday.

According to the Placer County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened along Mosquito Ridge Road and the car tumbled down a 1,000 foot cliff. 

It's not clear what led up to the accident, but a spokesperson for the sheriff's office said the driver didn't survive. The driver hasn't been identified at this time, but he was described as a male.

The California Highway Patrol will be investigating the accident.
