SONORA, Calif. — A 39-year-old from Angels Camp died Saturday, days after being hit by an alleged DUI driver in Sonora.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the 39-year-old was driving a 2019 Kia Optima west on Highway 108 near Draper Mine Road when they slowed down to turn onto a private driveway Thursday afternoon.
At the same time, a 30-year-old Sonora man was driving a Ford F-350 eastbound and 49-year-old Tammi Truschke was driving a 2020 Ram 2500 westbound.
CHP says Truschke hit the rear of the Kia and pushed it into the path of the Ford F-350, which hit the right side of the Optima.
Truschke stopped on the shoulder after the crash while the driver of the Ford was wearing a seatbelt and got out uninjured.
The driver of the Optima was airlifted from the scene to Doctors’ Medical Center in Modesto and died from their injuries Saturday.
CHP says it determined Truschke was driving under the influence and was arrested on suspicion of causing a crash with injuries while under the influence.
CHP said it's not releasing the identity of the person who died.
