SACRAMENTO, Calif. — East Sacramento residents are sounding the alarm after waking up Friday morning to see their 'Welcome to East Sacramento' community sign missing.

Plastered along a brick wall at McKinley Park on H Street & Alhambra Boulevard, the sign was a donation from the Friends of East Sacramento organization in 2011.

East Sacramento Community Association Board VP Nick Kufasimes told ABC10 the sign was almost $2,000 and to see it missing is heartbreaking.

"I was walking to work this morning and passed by the sign earlier. I noticed it was gone," said Kufasimes. "It was about $2,000 at the time it was donated. I can't imagine now with inflation, a new sign would be probably close to $4,000."

He says night time lights under the sign were previously stolen, but Kufasimes never thought someone would steal the sign.

He says neighbors would likely have to fundraise for a new one if the old one isn't returned since city officials are unlikely to buy one.
