Elderly woman, dog die in Fairfield house fire

Two other residents and a cat got out and were uninjured.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. — A woman and a dog died in a house fire in Fairfield early Friday morning.

According to the Fairfield Fire Department, it happened around 1:15 a.m. on the 200 block of Stephen Street. It was reported to dispatch that an elderly woman was trapped in a rear bedroom.

Firefighters arrived to find a single-story home on fire and heavy smoke was coming from the front door.

The fire was put out before it spread to neighboring homes and firefighters found the woman reported trapped dead at the scene. A dog also died in the fire.

Two other residents and a cat got out uninjured.

The Fairfield Fire Department says the fire appears to be accidental, but the cause is under investigation. The Red Cross is housing the two people displaced by the fire.
