EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. — Cupcakes, cookies and magnificent cakes-- El Dorado Hills native, Liam Bizjack baked his way to the top 5 on Food Network's eighth season of Kids Baking Championship, which premiered in January.
"I was like, ‘OK, let’s see if I can get through one episode,'" Bizjack said. "Then I got through the first. Then the second. And then I got all the way to the eighth. Crazy."
Hosted by celebrity chefs Duff Goldman and Valerie Bertenelli, the 10-week competition was filmed in Los Angeles last summer. 13 year old Bizjack competed against 11 kids for $25,000 and a feature in Food Network Magazine.
"It was so amazing because I got to meet other kid bakers from around the country," Bizjack said.
At 10 years old, Bizjack started experimenting in the kitchen with his great grandfather's mixer.
"I got into baking by just starting with chocolate chip cookies and making them for families and events," Bizjack explained. "Then I started venturing out more."
Bizjack's goal is to continue baking and go to culinary school to become a pastry chef. He says it's the smiles that keep him whipping up delicious treats.
"Cookies and cupcakes make people super happy and I love to make people happy and just see their reaction," Bizjack said.
