Elk Grove man sentenced to life in prison after 2022 Davis freeway shooting

Prosecutors say Andre Chevil Wilson had four prior 'strike' convictions, all in Alameda County.

YOLO COUNTY, Calif. — An Elk Grove man was sentenced to life in prison Monday for multiple firearm charges related to a February 2022 freeway shooting in Davis.

According to the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office, 56-year-old Andre Chevil Wilson was convicted by a jury in August of two counts of attempted murder, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, two counts of assault with an assault weapon or machine gun, two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, possession of an assault weapon, and four counts of being a felon in possession of ammunition.

Prosecutors say Wilson was driving when he used a modified Glock and AR-15 to shoot at two other drivers on the westbound I-80 offramp at Mace Boulevard.

He crashed his vehicle into a fence and ran away after the shooting. It took two hours to find Wilson in nearby vegetation.

Prosecutors say Wilson had four prior ‘strikes,’ all in Alameda County spanning from 1992 to 2010. Wilson was sentenced to 228 years-to-life in prison for the freeway shooting.
