Melo the cocker spaniel spent most of Thursday evening exploring his new home. His blonde and white coat, floppy ears distract from his medical aliments. The nine year old is blind and deaf.
His adopted parents, Nelson Kempsky and Sandy Wellington, said when they laid eyes on Melo's photo, they had to have him.
"He's not the only lucky one, we are too," Sandy said.
He walks around with cataract eyes, hoping not to get injured. Nelson and Sandy said they know raising Melo will take patience, but it is nothing a little love can't trump.
"We know its going to be some work and we now hes going to need some care from a vet as well," Nelson said.
Melo was placed by NorCal Crocker Rescue after his original owner was unable to care for him, due to her own health problems. The new parents said they have no intention of replacing her.
"We're just adding on to Melos experience and love," Sandy added.
