2 dead, 2 hospitalized after crash on I-5 near Hood Franklin Road

CHP says no one was wearing seatbelts based on its initial investigation.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Two people are dead and two others are hospitalized after a crash on I-5 just after midnight Tuesday.

California Highway Patrol South Sacramento responded to reports of a rollover crash on I-5 near Hood Franklin Road. Based on CHP's initial investigation, they believe the car hit the rumble strip while traveling northbound on I-5.

CHP said the driver overcorrected and the car lost traction on the wet road, swerving into the east shoulder and rolling over several times. Three of the four people in the car were ejected.

A passenger in the backseat was ejected from the car and declared dead at the scene. The driver was declared dead at a local hospital.

Two other passengers were taken to a local hospital. Based on its initial investigation, CHP says no one was wearing seatbelts, and alcohol or drugs do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
