Elk Grove cancels Lunar New Year event over coronavirus concerns

The Elk Grove's Diversity and Inclusion Commission canceled the event after following the example of similar events.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — The city of Elk Grove has decided to cancel its Lunar New Year event because of concerns over the coronavirus, which is the pneumonia-like virus that broke out in China.

The Sacramento County Public Health released a statement that said the risk of catching the coronavirus in Northern California is low. However, Elk Grove's Diversity and Inclusion Commission is following the example of organizers of similar events around the country.

China extended this Lunar New Year in an attempt to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
