ELK GROVE, Calif. — An Elk Grove family is still looking into who hit and killed an 85-year-old man in 2019.
"I'm sure that there are hundreds of hit and run unsolved cases out there, but when it's your own dad and it hits at home, you want to move your case to the top. You want answers,” said daughter Christina Gentil.
Edward Villasenor is described as the rock that held his family together. He was bringing in his trash cans outside his home when he was hit and killed on Waterman Road Nov. 7, 2019.
"He was taken from us. He was killed. He was hurt rather than if somebody would have stopped and at least told us what happened and given us some justice," said Gentil.
To make matters worse, his wife of 49 years suffers dementia and wasn’t able to celebrate the rest of their wedding anniversary due to the hit-and-run.
"She really didn't know what was going on. My dad was taken and she calls for him a lot,” said Gentil. “It's the saddest thing because she can't really comprehend what happened."
Police investigating this now 4-year-old case say Villasenor was hit by a red older model Chevy or GMC SUV. It’s something the family is on the constant lookout for.
“Every time me or my sister see an older suv and it's red we take a picture and we send it in, but we haven't heard," said Gentil.
While the family continues to grieve, they’re pleading for help to find the person responsible.
“I want answers. I just want him to come forward and let us know what happened," said Gentil.
Anyone with information can call the Elk Grove Police Department or the Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at 916-443-HELP.
