Elk Grove kicks off 'Fridays in the Grove' at Old Town Plaza

Elk Grove residents are invited to live music and line dancing lessons at the city's first 'Fridays in the Grove' of 2024.

ELK GROVE, Calif. — The city of Elk Grove is kicking off its second annual 'Fridays in the Grove' summer series from 5-8 p.m. in Old Town Plaza.

Country in the Plaza is this Friday's theme, with new themes planned for every first and third Friday of the month until the end of September.

"They all have different themes, we brought back some of the most popular ones like Silent Disco, Country in the Plaza and comedy night," said Elk Grove community events program manager Jodie Moreno. "Elk Grove has a lot of events and our residents always love something to do."

Scheduled events for the evening include:

  1. 5-6 p.m. - Live country music by Gunpowder & Lace
  2. 6:30-8 p.m. - Instructional line dancing lessons by Rhonda

Moreno said Fridays in the Grove was started as a way of highlighting District 56 and Old Town Plaza and getting residents to see the areas as gathering spaces.

"There's not a night, not even a weeknight, where there isn't something going on in our city," she said.

Residents are advised to bring their own low-back chairs or blankets to kick their boots up when taking a break from dancing. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
