ELK GROVE, Calif. — REI Co-op is set to open a new store in Elk Grove next year.
The specialty outdoor retailer announced plans Friday to open the Elk Grove location sometime in summer 2025.
According to REI, the Elk Grove store is 22,127 square feet and will be located at the Laguna Gateway Shopping Center off Highway 99. The space was previously occupied by Bed, Bath and Beyond, which closed down in 2023.
The Laguna Gateway Shopping Center is anchored by Best Buy, TJ Maxx, Home Depot and Old Navy.
REI is known for offering products for camping and outdoor-related activities such as hiking, cycling, and fitness.
“Cities that will have new stores represent communities that serve as a gateway to some of the country’s most incredible natural places and where our members currently live or destinations where they love to play outside,” said Mary-Farrell Tarbox, vice president of stores in a press release.
The upcoming Elk Grove store will be one of six locations the company will be opening throughout the country within the next two years.
It will be the second store to open in Northern California next year with the other planned location being in Chico. The company also plans to open stores in Carlsbad, New York, Colorado and Washington in 2025.
REI already has three stores in the Sacramento region in Folsom, Roseville and Sacramento.
